The private functions of the building are wrapped in a brick “quilt” that uses a variety of colors, sizes and finishes. This pattern making gives the elevations a rhythm whilst breaking down the scale of the building.

Within the quilt are three window types which reflect the program behind them; a low ribbon window that frames views whilst in a wheelchair or seat, a high ribbon window which is high enough for complete privacy whilst allowing views to trees or the sky and a large window which maximizes light and views for both seating and standing heights.

The composition of varying bricks and windows, set against the folded roof planes behind create the building’s visual signature, allowing one to gain an understanding of the program by a quick glimpse from the road or a more detailed study when walking in the landscaped surroundings.
