40 Berry
Under Construction
Brooklyn, New York
This seven-story apartment building is located on a post-industrial site that overlooks a local park in Brooklyn to the north and the Manhattan skyline to the west.

Immediately next door is an industrial building that once refurbished in 2009, will contain retail on the ground floor and rental apartments above. While 40 Berry is an autonomous building, the fact that it ties so physically to something of the existing urban fabric became a driving force to the design of the exterior.

Creating volumes which drew parallels with the major tripartite datum levels of the existing building and echoing the proportions of the masonry windows attempted to stitch the two buildings together even though replicating the floor to floor heights were not economically viable.
